Well, it feels like things are finally progressing on the IVF front.  I was able to go and get my "Day 3" blood tests done on Monday.  Thirteen vials of blood later (the second most the Phlebotemist had ever drawn at 1 time...) I was feeling very hungry (from fasting) and had a slamming headache.  I was so thankful that Jon let me lay on the couch all night after I got home from work.  He even made dinner and waited on me!  Hopefully we will get the results soon to see if I have any irregularities; fingers crossed everything comes out ok.

Since we didn't send out Christmas cards this year, here is a picture of our pretty baby.  I love the way she lays on her bed and crosses her front paws!

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Today I am thankful for...

Since everyone is posting what they're thankful for on Facebook, I thought I would do a post as well.  I am very thankful for my friends today (and everyday).  Since things have calmed down on our renovations, I feel like I have more time to myself which has allowed me a chance to catch up with some of the ladies in my life.  I love that no matter how long it has been since we have talked, it seems like just yesterday.  I suppose that is a sign of a true friendship.

In particular, I spoke with one friend yesterday and our conversation was a great comfort to me.  It was nice to have someone who understood the things that I am going through and who didn't think I was a terrible person for thinking some of the things I think.  When all of this baby making is over, I hope that I can be that person to lean on for someone else...actually I wouldn't wish this on any one, but if it happens, then at least they would have me to vent to!

It's amazing how we can all get caught up in our own lives and not even realize it.  Thank goodness we all understand these things and have amazing friends who are there for us when we need them!  I love the ladies in my life!

Oh, how time flies!

Wow!  I can't believe that it's been so long since I've posted.  So much has happened and also not happened.  Specifically, we're not pregnant yet and are not moving to Marquette as planned.  First things first, I discovered that it is rather difficult to get ahold of DMC (Jon's insurance company) and therefore we had to push our IVF plans one month back.  I wasn't able to get my "Day 3" bloodwork done because my insurance hadn't kicked in yet so we have been given 1 more month to try to make it happen on our own.  At first I was pretty bummed, but then I came to the realization that it must have happened for a reason.  Hopefully that reason will be a good one!

On our plans of moving to Marquette, we did end up backing out of our business deal.  After numerous nights of going to bed thinking about it and then waking up thinking about it, we decided that it wasn't the right move for us at this time in our lives.  Unfortunately, I am not able to give out any further details as we did sign a confidentiality agreement and also I wouldn't want to hurt the current owners' business in any way.  In the end, I believe that we will be able to maintain a friendly relationship.

While we haven't given up on the dream of moving back to Marquette, we now have some time to relax and enjoy our house!  However, we do have some ideas up our sleeves and are now just seeing how they pan out.  I'll be sure to keep everyone updated!

You're going to do what with a pineapple?!?

Well, we had our appointment yesterday in Warren and it went pretty well.  Surprisingly, there are nice areas of Warren which is where the office is.  Our doctor, Dr Kowalczyk, is awesome and made us feel so comfortable.  Jon says that she reminds him of Barbara Streisand in Meet the Fockers (Greg's mom) and I would say that's a pretty good comparison.  She has patients from Muskegon, Alpena and even Sault Ste Marie right now so it seems that she must be good at what she does to have people travel so far.

Regarding Jon's count, she said that you really can't get a definitive answer from 1 sample so she wants 3 more done.  I also have to repeat all of the hormone testing that I did in March so she has more up to date  information.  IShe also ordered me to have an HSG test which is where they inject dye into you via a catheter to see if there are any blockages; it sounds like a great time.  After we get all of our testing done she will go over the results with us and we will put together a plan of action.  October will be the cycle month that she will monitor and then we will begin some type of treatment in November.  Due to us not knowing whether or not I will be in Marquette with Jon down here, we will probably go the invitro route.  The other main option that she recommends first is 3 months of Clomid which would be kind of hard to make that work being 6 hours away from each other!  Jon mentioned we could meet in TC at Stacy's, but I vetoed that idea.  ;)  We haven't decided for sure what we will do, but it was nice to see what our options are.

It appears that we have this month and next month to try on our own.  Jon said that we are going to pull out all of the stops and use all of the advice that everyone has given us over the past year and a half.  This includes certain positions and him stuffing "8 pillows under my butt when we're done".  Also, Kaylie informed us once upon a time that I should eat the core of a pineapple because it helps make your uterus sticky.  Jon misconstrued this bit of advice and informed me that he will also be sticking a pineapple up there...I quickly dismissed this idea and let him know that he will not be putting any type of produce into my body.  Luckily we both still have our sense of humor!

At the end of the appointment Dr Kowalczyk informed us that when we get all of the results back in October she will call us instead of making us drive all the way back over there which was very nice and accomodating of her.  She will only implant 2 eggs since we are both young and in good health.  Sorry, no Octomom for me.  :)  She also said that she is certain that she will get us pregnant due to the previous two reasons.  All in all, we are very excited that things are moving forward and that we could have a bun in the oven by Christmas!!

In other news, we made great strides with the master bath last weekend and can now use the toilet!  It's amazing how spoiled you get when you have 2 and then are forced to use only 1.  I'm pretty excited that one of us will no longer have to hold it while the other uses the facilities or, as Jon likes to do when I'm using it, go outside.

I also wanted to mention to those of you who can make it, we are having our Second Annual Barn Party on Saturday, October 22nd.  It is sure to be a good time and we would love to have as many friends there as we can.  Since it will probably be our last one, it could get a little rowdy!!

Bear with me, I'm new to this...

Well, I've been wanting to start a blog for some time now to get away from Facebook messages and mass e-mails so I decided that today would be the day.  Life has been pretty crazy over the past year or two and it's about to get a little crazier...

After our year and a half quest to get pregnant, we found out last Friday that Jon has a low sperm count.  I think that this news probably would have upset a lot of people, but it actually gave us peace of mind.  We now know what we are up against instead of just listening to people tell us that it will happen eventually.  :)  We spent a lot of time over the weekend thinking about things and decided that we are going to do all that we can to get the show on the road.  After looking into my insurance (which I recently switched from Jon's because I would have better coverage in the GR area should I get pregnant...big mistake), I found out that it pays 50% of infertility testing and treatment, but no IVF.  Also, I was told by the clinic in GR that IVF typically costs around $10-11,000...ouch.  This is a lot of money for anyone to pay, let alone us who are dumping massive amounts of $ into our house to get it finished and are in the process of buying a business.  So, we checked into Jon's insurance which is an HMO out of Detroit.  It turns out that infertility testing, treatment and IVF are fully covered up to $15,000!!  We were extremely excited about this and have scheduled our first appointment for September 12th in Warren.  Hopefully all will go smoothly as I dump my insurance and get back on his...keep your fingers crossed for us!

In other news, we are working feverishly to get our house done.  Jon will be laying the tile in the master bath today and should be grouting it tomorrow.  I plan to finish priming the walls and ceiling and should be painting this weekend.  It seems that our plan to move back to Marquette by October 1st won't be happening at this point, but I am optimistic that it won't be too long after that.  Also, depending on how things go with our fertility issues, it might be in our best interests financially for Jon to stay down here and work for a bit so that we get it all paid for.  I don't know; we'll see how it goes.

Also, for all of the naysayers who think this is crazy of us to be doing all that we are doing, I have only one thing to say and that is that God never gives us more than we can handle.  We've tried so long and hard to get pregnant and to get back to Marquette and if it happens at a very inopportune time, then at least I know we will have the love and support of our friends and family to get us through it!  :)

Thank you for bearing with me through my first blog post.  I hope to have some pictures next week of the bathroom and bedroom to show off our progress!
